THE DISOBEDIENT ONE

The Disobedient One, a hybrid documentary exploring the healing powers of storytelling to break the chains of the past, is the second installment of the Bulls and Saints trilogy, a long-term documentary project, centered on the migration stories to the US of an extended family from the small Mexican town of Cherán, Michoacan.

In the first installment, we followed the story of a family struggling to go back home after living in the US for over twenty years. With The Disobedient One, we bring a different perspective to the dreams and aspirations of migrants coming north seeking the “American Dream”. In this second installment, we follow Eliceo Sánchez (the cousin of Tacho Juarez, protagonist of the first documentary) who crosses the border to ride el Dólar, a legendary unbeaten bull –a ride that if successful, will bring him fame, fortune, and redemption.

THE DREAM
OF THE BEAR

The Dream of the Bear is a time-traveling fable narrated by its central character, Jesús Contreras, an undocumented Aztec Dancer living in the American South, who returns to his hometown in rural Mexico to take care of his ailing mother. Accompanied by the spirit of a Bear and its taxidermied headpiece and hide, Jesús’ spiritual journey of healing and redemption takes a turn when he decides to reclaim his family’s abandoned lands deep in the mountain jungles of Guerrero.
